AWESOME WEBSITE. JUST HAPPENED TO FIND IT THROUGH THE NEWSLETTER. SURE DOES BRING BACK SOME FOND MEMORIES. I WAS A QM2 AND WELL REMEMBER THE ROUGH WEATHER IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC AND THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER IN THE SOUTH. I REMEMBER WELL WHEN THE SWKYWATCHER WAS THE FIRST RADAR SHIP TO BE SENT OFF THE COAST OF CUBA DURING THE BLOCKAIDE AND THE BAY OF PIGS INVASION. WE PICKED UP CUBANS TRYING TO FLEE IN ALL KINDS OF WATER CRAFT. WE BROUGHT THEM ON BOARD AND TRANSFERRED THEM TO THE COAST GUARD. I DON'T REMEMBER HOW LONG WE HAD BEEN ON DUTY BEFORE WE WERE REPLACED, BUT WE WERE READY FOR SOME LIBERTY IN KEY WEST. AFTER A FEW DAYS, KEY WEST WAS READY TO SEE US LEAVE. WE KNEW HOW TO HAVE A GOOD TIME ON DUVAL STREET. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

My daddy, Daniel Grover Parker, Sr., served on the USS Interceptor late sometime around 1960-1962. He served as a Roadioman and always talked about his time and friends aboard as some of his greatest memories. He passed away in 2010. Anyone remember him and have any stories to share?

Thank you all for your service and dedication to our country! God Bless!

I served on the Guardian from October 1961 to September 1963 (deck force, BM striker). I just saw the following post:
During the month of June 1961, Guardian was ordered to take station south of Key West, FL and to track and report all aircraft inbound to, or outbound from the United States. In October 1962, Guardian was again ordered to take a southern station, this time off the eastern coast of Florida. This was part of the "Cuban Blockade", and during the entire Cuban Crisis, radar picket ships performed important roles.
I was on the Guardian during the blockade duty.  We were ordered to be part of that blockade in November, 1962.  LtCdr Ellis actually ordered us to fire a round from our 3" x 50 forward gun over the deck of a Russian freighter that was refusing to turn around and head back east.  We fired the round, the freighter turned around, and we did not need to board her or take any other action.  In 2003, I received the Navy Expeditionary medal for this blockade, an award that all the ship's crew should have received in 1962.

Just found this web site.  Great work.
